Autographed Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Nirvana Rolling Stone Cover
This is a extremely rare piece of Nirvana memorabilia. It was given to myself when Hard Rock Cafe in West Edmonton Mall closed down in the early 2000s. It was hanging on the wall bolted on behind glass when it was open. The magazine is extremely rare because it is the first Rolling Stone cover they appeared on. There is a good documentary about the photo shoot of this magazine on YouTube that talks about how Kurt Cobain was asked not to wear a shirt with much writing on it. So he went home and wrote corporate magazines still suck in protest. What makes this even more rare is his signature. In the early days of Nirvana, Kurt spelled his name KURDT. You can see that in the liner notes of the Bleach album and in the photo credits of Nevermind. This is rare signature to have when he spelled his name with the D. Kurt originally signed with the silver marker but then was unhappy with it so signed again with the black sharpie. If you look at the picture of Dave signing, you can see the silver marker and sharpie options for the band to choose from. The Krist Novoselic autograph is interesting too because he drew hair on his head. And the Dave Grohl signature is clearly marked in the photo included. Also included is the Local Crew backstage pass and the picture showing the signing of the magazine. The frame is still the original from the Hard Rock Cafe and has the framing company on the back. There are metal plates screwed into the back of the frame that was used to secure the picture to the wall for security. I sent a picture of the magazine to Krist Novoselic to ask if he remembered the signing, although he said he didn’t know, he says it “looks legit”! This is a one of a kind piece of history and a wonderful asset for the Nirvana fan.
