British music photographer Gered Mankowitz is best known for his iconic photographs of The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. After leaving school at 15, with no formal qualifications, but with a natural eye for photography, he was offered an apprenticeship at the famous photo agency, Camera Press Ltd. In the 1960s, he had fashion assignments in Paris and worked on theatre portraits back in London. He cultivated’showbiz’ contacts, which in turn led to work with the Rolling Stones. Mankowitz even toured with the band in 1965 and made the cover photographs to two of their albums. Size Approximate : 77 x 102 cm (30.3 x 40.15). This superb print was made in London by Wayne Johnson. He has used four colours – Metallic Gold, Red, Ochre & Black to achieve a remarkable result. It is printed on 310 gsm Somerset Satin, 100% cotton, acid free, mould-made, tub sized and deckle edged paper. It measures 30ins x 40ins (76cm x 102cm) with an image size of 29ins x 22ins (74cm x 56cm). All prints are signed, numbered & stamped. This vintage edition was originally produced to celebrate the Stones Bridges To Babylon tour coming to the UK in 1999. This print is based on the original 1965 portrait of the Stones called “Caged”. The screenprint is framed and if you collect, will be supplied framed.
