When the greatest rock and roll band in the world released Beggars Banquet in 1968, it was immediately hailed as a masterpiece and the band’s finest effort. While the front cover image of a grafitti-laden lavatory was suppressed and not used for 20 years, the inner sleeve, picturing the original lineup in full regalia enjoying themselves in an immense castle, was treasured by fans. Unfortunately, the poor reproduction quality and cheesy hand-coloring of the image didn’t reveal even a shadow of the original photograph’s brilliant colors and striking composition. Moreover, there was a suite of 30 additional photographs of the Stones from that day, all by Michael Joseph, the photographer on hand who recorded these striking images, which are among the last of the original line-up featuring Brian Jones. Except for a single showing of these images at a gallery in London, the complete Michael Joseph photographs of The Rolling Stones have never before been seen, and the gallery of photographs has, needless to say, never before been published in book form, until now. This book presents the entire known collection of Joseph’s photographs, printed here in striking fidelity for the first (and probably last) time ever, complete with detail views, in a stunning, landscape format, oversize package. Limited to 200 (regular) copies. Epigraph by Keith Richards. Signed by Robert Greenfield. Photographs by Michael Joseph. GardaMatt paper, Suedeluxe binding. Dye-infused aluminum print on front board. Book size is 15 × 12 inches. Published January 2016. Book Is In Like New Unread Condition. # 107 /200 Signed By Robert Greenfield.

Rolling Stones Masons Yard Primrose Hill Gered Mankowitz Genesis Limited Edition
It features the English photographer’s superb images of the Rolling Stones in Britain and America at the height of the 1960s – on location, in the recording studio and on tour. It features an accompanying text by Mankowitz and a Foreword by Nick Coleman. It was published by the renowned fine art rock’n’roll book publisher Genesis Publications in 1995, and was limited to just 1750 copies, each copy numbered and signed by Mankowitz. This is copy number 1234 of 1750. It is quarter-bound in black leather, with black front and back boards silk-screened with photographs (a stylish black on black). The book is housed in a custom-made slipcase wrapped in brown craft paper that is silk-screened in two colours with a unique design. A collector’s item for fans of the Stones. The pages of the book are in as-new condition, clean and unmarked. The case has a small dent at the top right of the back board but is overall in very good condition; the slipcase has a small dent at the top right of the front, and light wear and tear on the bottom edge but no more than would be expected with an uncoated paper slipcase on a 30-year old book (see last 3 photos). Overall, a very good copy of a book that is a superb rarity. According to the publisher, Genesis. From 1965-67, Gered Mankowitz was the photographer, friend and travelling companion of The Rolling Stones. Throughout this time, he captured unique and breathtaking images of the band at work and at play. His photograph for the cover of the Stones’ recording Between The Buttons is regarded by many as one of the most memorable album covers of all time. For those two years Gered’s relationship with the Stones flourished and he had unrivalled access to the band’s concerts, recording sessions and hotel rooms. In preparing this book, Gered individually proofed and examined 3,500 frames carefully stored in his own personal archive, an experience which he described as being’like viewing much of my work for the very first time’. In the process he rediscovered images he had long since forgotten, including many rare and unpublished colour pictures which can be found in Mason’s Yard to Primrose Hill. The edition was limited to 1,750 signed copies in black quarter leather with silk-screened slipcase. An original 3-frame contact strip direct from the negative is pasted into each copy. (The contact strip is seen in photo 9). Weight: 1.51 kg not including packaging.
