Wood began his career in 1964 when he joined The Birds as a guitarist. He then joined the mod group The Creation, though his time with the band was brief. Wood joined Jeff Beck’s band in 1967 as a bassist. With the group, he released two albums, Truth and Beck-Ola, which achieved moderate success.
