(the writing has stained the inside of the front cover opposite & also gone through somewhat to the Dedication page overleaf); Fontana Paperbacks 1987 1st ed, 122pp. Wonderfully illustrated text (by Ronnie Wood) in acceptable condition with slight browning to page edges & creasing to the bottom corners of the pages, some browning to the inside of both covers, edge wear to covers/corners/top & bottom of the spine with a small tear & noticeable creasing to the top right hand edge of the rear cover & to the top edge of the preceding 10 pages (obviously including the inside of the rear cover), slight creasing to the corners, bumping to spine edges on front & rear, rear cover is heavily marked & scratched, the spine is slightly marked, the front has a significant line of indentations/bumps stretching from the left hand edge to just short of the right hand one, along with many marks & scratches elsewhere. The Works, illustrated by Ronnie Wood’s own paintings & drawings, is compulsive reading for anyone who has ever loved rock and roll, blues or soul. Wood is an infectious enthusiast & personalities & faces come alive in these pages – from Jagger to Bowie, Keith Richards to Tina Turner, John Belushi to Andy Warhol, and many others.

SIGNED in black marker on the title page. No dust jacket as issued. 154 mostly black and white reproductions. 26 are in color. There is a minor imperfection. There is a small ding to the top edge rear board. The illustrations are perfect. Fifty years ago, the biggest rock band in the world, the Rolling Stones, landed in the south of France. The young photographer Dominique Tarle who had known the band for a few years in London and on tour, came to join his favorite musicians in order to immortalize them in this new environment. He began with the now famous Villa Nellcote, rented by Keith Richards, overlooking Villefranche-sur-Mer harbor. He came to spend the day with the guitarist and his family, and will only leave 6 months later, following Keith’s invitation to enjoy this special moment in their lives. How do you refuse such an offer, when you are a fan of photography and rhythm and blues? Dominique Tarle then became the only photographer ever to live with this legendary band, at the height of their career, during the creation of the no less legendary album Exile on Main Street, going in the same day from the simplest daily events to the pure musical moments between professionals. This unforgettable summer would forever leave its mark on the photographer’s life and the history of rock’n’roll; the trust the band gave Dominique Tarle still holds even today and is testimony to the sincere friendship that bound him to these artists. It became the location where Exile On Main Street was recorded, with the help of a mobile recording truck connected to a basement studio. Tarle recounted to the New York Times that, A carnival of characters paraded through: Terry Southern, Gram Parsons, John Lennon, even a tribal band from Bengal. Dope dealers from Marseille; petty thieves, who stole most of the rugs and half the furniture; and hangers-on, all of them there to witness what was happening. Tarle’s beautifully evocative photographs from Nellcote are renowned among Stones fans the world over. Tarle said, . I realized that pictures are far more important than the photographers themselves. For myself, I could only say that the whole of the game was to remain invisible and to have the least possible impact on what was going on around me. SIGNED by Dominique Tarle. Limited to 1500 copies.
