An extremely rare lithograph of Guy Peelaert’s iconic album cover for the Rolling Stones. It’s Only Rock and Roll. Hand signed in pencil by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, and Mick Taylor. This example is numbered 17/75. This Stones lineup produced some of the Stones most acclaimed albums, including. Exile on Main Street. Autographs of this Stones lineup are the most difficult to obtain, as Mick Taylor was only in the group for five years. This gorgeous limited-edition lithograph is printed in metallic gold ink on textured fine art paper. Hot Stuff: The Story of the Rolling Stones. By Stones uber-collector Matt Lee, these lithographs were printed in four colors, red, purple, gold and silver, and I believe these lithographs to be the first officially signed items ever produced by the band. Extensive online research and polling of collectors has turned up fewer than 10 examples of this exceptionally rare print, with the highest one numbered 22/75. Lee thinks this was almost certainly made for promotional purposes, and the edition was unfinished when, for whatever reason, the full group failed to sign all of the copies. Was Mick Taylor’s final album with the Stones; it was released in October 1974, and he quit the group just two months later, frustrated at not receiving songwriting credits he thought he deserved, and having developed a drug dependence. The Rolling Stones were due to start recording a new album in Munich, and the entire band was reportedly angry at Taylor for leaving at such short notice. It’s quite likely Taylor’s abrupt departure is the reason the edition was never completed.
